ADVICE ABOUT USING BIODIESEL FUELS

Biodiesel Engine Use – Biodiesel made exactly to EU EN14214 standard specification for diesel engine fuels require no modifications to be made to the engine and have a similar performance to petro diesel.

Diesel Engine Rubber Seals and Hoses – Biodiesel should not be used in diesel engines which use rubber hoses and rubber seals in the fuel system (usually manufactured pre 1992) as they may corrode. Modern diesel engines use Viton seals and are compatible with biodiesel use.

Changing from petro Diesel to Biodiesel – When changing over your engine to biodiesel it should be noted that biodiesel is a solvent and cleaning Agent and it may instantly clean the tars and lacquers associated with petro diesel in the fuel tank and fuel system and deposit them in the fuel filter. Fuel filters may need to be changed or cleaned out within 24 hours.

Biodiesel Storage – As with petro diesel, biodiesel should be stored in dry bunded fuel tanks that prevent water entering the fuel. Water in any diesel fuel may damage fuel pumps and injector systems and increase fuel consumption.

Environment Agency Fuel Storage Regulations PPG 6a – All fuel, oil and chemical storage must be sited on an impervious base within a bund and secured. The base and bund must be impermeable to the material stored and of an adequate capacity.
